Eurosport showed two second round matches live: Stephen Hendry beating Tony Drago 5-3 and Ken Doherty beating John Parrott 5-4.

Hendry was 3-1 down in the interval after impressive break-building by both players. Then, Hendry won four frames in a row. Drago had his chances, but seemed very nervous. Drago has never yet beaten Hendry in ten attempts, he was close this time and was very disappointed after the match.

The evening match between Parrott and Doherty was very scrappy and took three and a half hours. Long safety battles followed by missed chances by both players seemed to be the story of every frame. Parrott was ahead four times in the match, but Doherty eventually clinched the deciding frame on the yellow.

There has been several surprises so far in the tournament: Jimmy White and Ronnie O'Sullivan went out in the first round, and James Wattana, Nigel Bond and Steve Davis in the second.

Semi-finals

Ken Doherty, Ireland (9) 6-3 Stephen Hendry, Scotland (1)

70-62 (70, 62), 37-66, 16-77 (77), 66-58 (62), 51-66, 73-17 (59), 79-0
(79), 60-40, 81-0

Ken Doherty won the last four frames to beat Stephen Hendry, who had only lost one match this season (against John Parrott in the semi-final of the Thailand Classic).

John Higgins, Scotland (11) 6-5 Alan McManus, Scotland (6)

58-15, 62-65, 23-59, 104-22 (50,54), 79-66 (McManus 62), 21-77, 76-38
(62), 1-114, 98-1, 70-71 (Higgins 57), 68-12 (58)

This all Scottish semi-final was very dramatic. John Higgins led 5-4 and had a 70-0 lead in frame ten with only five reds remaining on the table (i.e. a possible break of 67). McManus potted four of the reds with blacks, and then snookered Higgins on the last red. Higgins missed, and McManus cleared the table to win the frame 71-70!

John Higgins kept his calm and took the deciding frame helped by a break of 58.
